The department of Sociology is one of the old departments of Duliajan College, which was started in 1971 under the headship of Mr. Probhat Chandra Phukan (now retried) and Late Purna Saikia. The introduction of Sociology department in Duliajan College created a new chapter in the field of education for its surrounding area, as the department has initiated an intellectual atmosphere since its inception. Further, the department has provided scope of higher education for a number of enthusiastic students along with its introduction of major course (now known as Honours) since 1994. The department has already created a number of valued personalities, who are now providing their service in different field not only in Assam but also in abroad.

Add on Course: - Certificate course in Environmental Sociology (Six Months)

Minimum percentage for applying in Major course is 60% in respective (Sociology) subject along with good academic record (at least second class in HSSLC or equivalent course).
Selection Procedure for Major Course:
A high-level committee consisting of departmental faculty members conduct interview (written, viva-voce etc.) from short listing candidates on the basis of merit.
Facilities: - The department is well equipped with more than one thousand books (Departmental Library) useful for both Honours and non-honours students. The department offers two books per students for a period of fifteen days. The department is also facilitated with computer and internet connection where students can easily search worldwide educational information with due permission from the department. ‘SOCIOUS’ is the Wall Magazine of the department to exercise literary skill of the students. The departmental alumni association is a part of the department which also enriches the mission of education with financial and moral support. ‘SOLOG’ is a student’s welfare fund of the department which provides course materials (Books, Copies etc.) to the students belong to economically unsound families under social obligation policy.
Activities: - The Department organizes educational tour every year to different places of India with the help of college authority for expansion of students’ knowledge with virtual world. Other activities -
